Encouraging giving on the biggest shopping day of the year
On the biggest holiday shopping day of the year, area residents also will have the opportunity to do something a little different — Give to Grow. The Greater Sabetha Community Foundation is hosting its First annual Give to Grow event on Friday, Nov. 25.
On this day, donors will be able to give back to area non-profits — and have those donations matched. Donors can donate online for the 24-hour period, or donate in person from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at a downtown location.
Just this week, the GSCF received confirmation of two $10,000 matching donations. One is a match to any GSCF funds, and the other is a match specific to the Sabetha Health and Wellness Center. Additional matching donations also are in the works.
Current non-profits with funds through GSCF include the Sabetha Health and Wellness Center, The Main Event, Sabetha Kiwanis Family Splash Park, Sabetha Community Animal Protection Society, Nemaha County United 4 Youth, Brown County Humane Society and Nemaha County Meals on Wheels.
The GSCF Board is encouraging other area non-profits to get involved, too. GSCF is hosting two learning sessions for entities that might be interested in setting up a fund and therefore becoming eligible for the Giving Day. The first will be held at noon Thursday, Oct. 13, at Buzz Cafe in Sabetha. The second will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, at the Community National Bank community room.
