Brown County Commission
The Board of Brown County Commissioners met in regular session Monday, Oct. 2. Members present were Chairman Steve Roberts, Dwight Kruse and Keith Olsen. Also present were County Clerk Melissa Gormley and Deputy County Clerk Dawn Boyles. County Attorney Kevin Hill was present for a portion of the meeting.
Roberts discussed applying for the Roger and Ruth Wolfe Charitable Trust to replace benches on the courthouse square. Roberts estimates the cost would be around $800 each and Brown County would apply for two benches.
Roberts reported that KANZA did not receive the JAG Grant for which they were applying. Roberts stated that KANZA would apply again during the next cycle.
Brown County Sheriff John Merchant reported that there are 27 inmates – 21 males and six females – in the County Jail.
Merchant and the commission also discussed the Lights and Sirens permits. Merchant will get a list of current emergency personnel with the permits.

The commissioners approved the Sept. 29 minutes.
Gormley presented a letter for Brown County Commissioners to suspend future dispatch payments from the City of Hiawatha with that money to be used toward the Hiawatha City Police Department. The commissioners signed the letter.
