The Board of Brown County Commissioners met in regular session Friday, Sept. 29, with the following members present: Chairman Steve Roberts, Dwight Kruse and Keith Olsen. Also present were County Clerk Melissa Gormley and Deputy County Clerk Dawn Boyles.

David Elsbury, KANZA Director, requested a letter of support for the JAG Demonstration Grant for Certified Peer Support Services to County Jail Inmates from the commission. The letter of support was signed.

Brown County Appraiser Tammy Antoine discussed tax exemption issues. Antoine will take the necessary steps to address the issues.

Gormley presented a letter from Richardson County, Neb., with the total cost estimate of $195,000 on the replacement of Bridge CO07413845. Resolution No. 17-11 was signed, approving the agreement between Brown County and Richardson County, Neb.

Gormley also presented a waiver from Brown County to the Kansas Housing Resources Corporation for the ESG Grant for the commissioner’s signatures.

Commissioners appointed Dr. Gary McIntosh as a Deputy County Coroner for the 22nd Judicial District.

Gormley discussed the Lights and Sirens permits with the commission. After discussion, the commissioners decided to leave the two year-renewal in place. Commissioner Kruse was appointed as the Brown County voting delegate for KCAMP. Gormley presented the Annual KCAMP Coverage Questionnaire for the commissioners’ approval.

The Sept. 29 month-end claims were approved as follows: General, $92,215.44; Road and Bridge, $340,960.29; Historical Society, $3,750; Employee Benefit, $51,000.63; Election, $6,389.36; Extension, $7,875; Mental Health, $5,850; Developmental Services, $2,254.33; Appraiser, $921.72; Ambulance, $11,959.57; Noxious Weed, $2,286.11; Diversion, $613.76; 911 SB50, $4,629.94; ACC, $4,220.83; JJCR, $8,644.74; Services for Elderly, $4,453.16; Solid Waste, $38,456.09; and Payroll, $390.26. The total paid was $586,871.23.

The Sept. 27 payroll was approved as follows: General, $59,022.84; Road and Bridge, $13,738.51; Election, $1,625.77; Technology, $452.38; Appraiser, $6,940.01; Noxious Weed, $2,006.16; ACC, $8,591.63; JJA Core, $10,193.33; ACE Fund, $155.33; Services for Elderly, $2,137.50; Solid Waste, $2,470.13; Special MVT, $1,340.01; Employee Benefit FICA, $6,560.21; and Employee Benefit KPERS, $7,349.45. After state unemployment/workers compensation of $168.58 and insurance of $8,082.66, the total paid was $114,332.02.
