Matt Pyle is inducted into Luther College Athletic Hall of Fame
Matt Pyle, a 2007 graduate of Luther College, was inducted into the Luther College Athletic Hall of Fame for his outstanding achievements in wrestling. The Induction ceremony took place on Saturday, Oct. 7, as part of the Luther College Homecoming weekend.
Pyle is Luther’s only four-time NCAA III All-American at 149 pounds. He placed third at the national meet in 2004, fourth in 2006, and was crowned the national champion in both 2005 and 2007. He wrestled on Luther teams that placed third in both 2004 and 2005, and fourth in 2006 and 2007 at the national finale.
He was named the Iowa Conference Outstanding Wrestler and the NCAA III National Championships Outstanding Wrestler his senior year. He was a two-time NWCA Scholar All-American and was inducted in the NWCA DIII Hall of Fame in 2014. He finished with a career record of 108-26 that included 50 falls.
Luther Head Coach Dave Mitchell inducted Pyle into the Hall of Fame.
Pyle is a 2003 graduate of Sabetha High School. He and his wife Rachel (Carney) Pyle and their two children, Gracie and Finnigan, reside in Salina. Pyle has been a sports medicine fellow at Via Christi Sports Medicine in Wichita since July 2017.
