Nemaha County Commission 10.16.17

The Board of Nemaha County Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, Oct. 16, in the Commissioner’s Room of the Nemaha County Courthouse. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Tim Burdiek leading the flag salute. Present also were Commissioners Dennis Henry and Gary Scoby, Road and Bridge/Solid Waste Supervisor Dennis Ronnebaum, Office Manager Kathy Haverkamp and Clerk Mary Kay Schultejans recording the minutes.
Road and Bridge/Solid Waste Supervisor Dennis Ronnebaum advised the board that:
• Crews are still hauling rock on county roads.
• He also has his crew going to get sand and salt for this winter.
• They got Bridge P-17 poured last week on Thursday.
Sheriff Rich Vernon advised the board that all of the individuals involved in the vehicle thefts that occurred recently in the county are now in custody.
Department Head Meeting
Present for the quarterly Department Head meeting were Ronnebaum, Schultejans, Vernon, Noxious Weed/Emergency Preparedness Director Todd Swart, Senior Services/Public Transit Director Diane Yunghans, Treasurer Janell Niehues, Attorney Brad Lippert, Jeff Kidd and Jim Runnebaum with SBS Insurance Agency, and Ashley Mitchell and Justin Zwaschka with EMC Insurance Company.
Discussion was held concerning the reporting of a workers compensation claim following an injury to an employee while at work. Discussion also was held concerning requiring the employee to be drug and alcohol tested following a workers compensation injury or an accident involving a county-owned vehicle.
Also at the meeting:
The board reviewed vouchers submitted by the different departments that were paid at the middle of October.
The board approved the appointment of Miles Hanzlicek and Mike Clowe to the Nemaha County Fire District No. 3 Board on the recommendation of the current fire district board members.
Commissioners approved a cereal malt beverage application submitted by the Kelly Knights of Columbus. Chairman Burdiek signed the Cereal Malt Beverage License as presented.
Schultejans requested an executive session with Lippert and the commissioners. A 10-minute executive session to discuss the utilization of sick leave of non-elected personnel. No action was taken by the board following the executive session.
