Two Cardinal harriers advance to State
Two Wetmore Cardinal harriers advance to the State Tournament after placing at the Regional meet held Saturday, Oct. 20, in Washington.
The Cardinals did not have enough runners in either the boys’ or the girls’ race to place as a team, but did qualify two runners – senior Alena Pfrang and junior Jonathan Hladky-Bailey – for the State meet.
Pfrang placed third overall out of 54 runners, with a time of 22 minutes, 21 seconds. Also competing in the girls’ race was senior McKayla Henry, who placed 29th with a time of 26 minutes, 15 seconds.
Hladkey-Bailey placed 17th overall out of 82 runners, with a time of 19 minutes, 4 seconds.
Also competing in the boys’ race was freshman Austin Smith, who placed 35th with a time of 20 minutes, 53 seconds; and junior Curtis Bloom in 65th with a time of 23 minutes, 29 seconds.
The Cardinals will compete at the State meeting in Wamego on Saturday, Oct. 28. The 1A girls’ race begins at 11:10 a.m. and the 1A boys’ race begins at 12:55 p.m.
