Cardinals place fourth, Bluejays compete
Twelve teams competed in the varsity Scholars Bowl meet Tuesday, Nov. 14, in Sabetha. The Wetmore Cardinals earned a fourth place finish, while the Sabetha Bluejays were unable to advance out of pool play.
The 12 teams were divided into half and split into the Blue Pool and White Pool. Teams in the Blue Pool were Axtell, Holton, Jackson Heights, Nemaha Central, Rock Creek and Sabetha. Teams in the White Pool were Hiawatha, Horton, Marysville, Riverside, Rossville and Wetmore.
In pool play, Sabetha won two matches and lost three. They defeated Axtell, 40-0; and Jackson Heights, 40-30. The fell to Holton, 0-30; Nemaha Central, 40-70; and Rock Creek, 30-45. With the three losses, the Bluejays were unable to advance out of pool play.
In pool play, Wetmore won four matches and lost one. They defeated Horton, 40-10; Marysville 30-20; Riverside, 30-20; and Rossville 45-10. The fell to Hiawatha, 25-50. The Cardinals placed second in the White Pool, which earned them a spot in the semi-final round.
In the semi-finals, the Cardinals were defeated 20-50 by Nemaha Central. Wetmore then competed with Rock Creek in the consolation match, falling 30-40 to Rock Creek and placing fourth overall.
