School Organization: Sabetha PTO

Sabetha PTO met at the Sabetha Elementary School Library at 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 6. Present were President Amber Deters, Vice President Kara Tramp, Treasurer Jeanelle Plattner, Secretary Annie Deters, Krista Wasinger, Anita Meyer, SES Principal Sara Toedman, Crystal Wedel, Lori Menold and Jennifer Ploeger.

Minutes were approved as read. Plattner read the Treasurer Report.

New Business

PTO had been contacted regarding Elementary School Music Programs. The Drama and Forensics department will no longer be providing treats following the programs as of this year. The Music Boosters have taken this on and PTO will be helping as needed.

Committee Reports

Fundraising

Labels: Wedel reported $97.20 raised in October. Menold reported $27 earned through Best Choice labels. Easton Renyer was the winner of the $5 gift card to Sabetha Health Mart. Discussion was had about reminders via email, or an article in the paper.

Bluejay Gear: One shirt had been sold since last meeting. Shirts will be available at the Taco Feed and Cake Raffle in January. Discussion was had about a possible post on Facebook publicizing the available sizes.

Cake Raffles: The next Cake Raffle will be January 12.

Give to Grow: Amber Deters reported Give to Grow day is Nov. 25 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. An email would be sent out through PTO and by the principals requesting early donations.

Taco Feed: Meyer reported that the sign up list would be updated and completed shortly.

Projects and Giving

Classroom Enhancement Program: Amber Deters reported that the first cycle was finalized. Forms had been updated to reflect issues found in the initial round. A notice would be sent to schools reminding them about the next round of opportunity.

Landscape Maintenance: A dead tree was replaced and fall fertilization completed. Kara Beyer is maintaining the landscape at the schools through March 2018. Budget for landscaping nearly has been reached, and there are dead plants at Sabetha Middle School. Discussion was had whether to continue replacing plants or put down rock. The issue was tabled for next meeting when information and estimates can be discussed.

Crossing Guard: Sara Toedman reported that Pat Rodecap will be back Dec. 4. The extra help has been appreciated, and Thank You cards will be sent.

Student-Centered

Sunshine Program: Jeanelle Plattner reported that there had been one new student at the school since last meeting.

Classroom Parties: First party was on Oct. 31 for Halloween and by all accounts went very smoothly.

Spelling Bee Discussion: Members talked with Principal Toedman about how it was decided who was competing in the spelling bee at the Elementary School. She reported that it had been addressed and would follow up with teachers before and after the spelling bee.

Teacher-Centered

Early Release Treats: Reminder was not sent out via SignUp.com to any volunteers for the upcoming Early Release. A second attempt to remind volunteers would be made as soon as possible.

Holiday Giving Trees: Kara Tramp reported that she had a tree for everyone ready and would be put up by Nov. 13. An email and newsletter would be sent out when the ornaments were up and ready. The ornaments were on their way, and she hoped to get those to the teachers as soon as possible.

Support Staff Appreciation: Jeanelle Plattner reported that there would be a Soup Lunch at the three schools on Nov. 29. An invitation would be sent out to all employees of the Sabetha campuses and District Office to the lunch. There would be a SignUp reminder sent out for volunteers, and elementary would set up in the Art Room and the Middle and High Schools in their Teacher Work Room.
