On the first home basketball game, the Wetmore SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) chapter and Student Council combined their forces to hold a fundraiser for the Ukele family, who were involved in a tragic accident on Saturday, Nov 25. The accident occurred on Highway 75 just north of Highway 9.
Many students felt compelled to help the surviving members of the Ukele family and decided that a pop-a-shot and bake sale would be an appropriate fundraising event.
As of Dec. 6, the SADD chapter and STUCO members have raised approximately $1,200.
“The amount of support we received from the Wetmore community and the surrounding communities, including the Centralia fans was phenomenal,” said Staci Honas, sponsor of SADD. “People were very generous with their donations, and we know the amount raised will be much appreciated by the Ukele family. The thoughts and prayers of our Wetmore family and the surrounding areas will continue to be with the Ukele family.”
Brette and Jacob Stanton donated the pop for the pop-a-shot, and many people from the community brought in baked goods for the sale.
“The fundraiser was a sudden idea, but I feel that it turned out great,” said Jossie Shumaker, Wetmore High School student. “Raising that much money is a great accomplishment, and I’m happy to be a part of this fundraiser.”
