Shrine Bowl: Sabetha senior Wyatt Beyer selected to play, Coach Garrett Michael selected as assistant coach
Sabetha High School senior Wyatt Beyer has been chosen to participate on the East Squad roster in the 44th annual Kansas Shrine Bowl game on Saturday, July 28, in Pittsburg.
During the 2017 football season, Beyer was an instrumental member of the Bluejays’ 3A State Championship Football team. The Bluejays finished the season with a 13-1 record.
Beyer totaled 24 tackles, seven interceptions, three receptions for 30 yards, and 126 rushes for 712 yards for the Bluejays. He also tallied 11 touchdowns and two 2-point conversions. Beyer was selected for the 3A Kansas Football Coaches Association All Class Team, and also was named 1st Team All Big 7 League Defensive Back, All State 3A Honorable Mention Defensive Back by the Wichita Eagle and All State Defensive Back by the Topeka Capital Journal.
Sabetha Head Coach Garrett Michael will serve as one of the East Squad’s assistant coaches. Coach Michael also was named Coach of the Year by both the Kansas Football Coaches Association and Sports in Kansas.
Other area athletes competing in the Shrine Bowl will be Jack Blumer of Marysville, Josh Boyd of Silver Lake and Mitchell Henry of Nemaha Central competing with the East; and Carlos Emanuel of Hanover with the West. Nemaha Central Head Coach Warren Seitz will serve as head coach of the East Squad.
