Jay grapplers finish seventh at Holton tournament

Eight Sabetha wrestlers competed in the 2018 Holton High School Sadowski Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 20. Fifteen teams from the area competed in this year’s tournament, and the Jays captured seventh place with 98 points.

The team title went to Andover Central with 206.5 points followed by Holton with 162, Gardner-Edgerton with 131, Chapman with 116.5, Bryan High with 110, and Rossville with 108. Five Sabetha wrestlers placed in the tournament.

Freshman 113-pound Kaden Dillon placed third. Dillon went 3-1 on the day and defeated Woodson of Perry-Lecompton by fall for the bronze medal.

Junior 152-pound Kamden Brownlee captured fourth place by going 2-2 on the day. Brownlee dropped a 4-1 decision to Wernli of El Dorado in the match for third.

Sophomore 160-pound Walker Lowdermilk took fourth place by going 2-2 on the day. Lowdermilk dropped an 8-3 decision to Rodd of Andover Central in the consolation final.

Junior 195-pound Cauy Rokey placed second in the tournament. Rokey sustained an injury in the finals and was not able to continue the match against Davoren of Rossville.

Junior 285-pound Elliot Strahm captured second place in the tournament, his only loss on the day to Tannahill of Holton in the finals.

The Jays wrestled Falls City on Tuesday, Jan. 23 in Falls City, Neb. These results were not available at The Herald’s press time.

The Jays will travel to Jeff West for a dual on Thursday, Jan. 25, and on Friday, Jan. 26, the Jays will compete in the Onaga Tournament in Onaga.
