Mary Elizabeth McGinty Relihan

Mary Elizabetha McGinty Relihan, of Wichita, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018. She was born and raised in Sabetha.

She attended Cottey College in Nevada, Mo., and the University of Kansas as a design major and was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.

While at KU, she met her husband, Donald A. Relihan, M.D. His medical practice brought them to Wichita where she became active in a number of social and community organizations and served in various capacities including President of the Junior League of Wichita, President of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Wichita Alumni Association, and as secretary of the board of Wichita Art Association. Mary created beautiful pottery, gifting many pieces to her family and friends. She was recognized for outstanding needlepoint stitchery and creating custom designs for clients as a co-owner of Needlepoint By MEG. She enjoyed gardening, watching sports, played golf and tennis, and was a dedicated reader never without a book by her side.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Esther McGinty.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Donald A. Relihan, M.D.; brother, William J. McGinty, D.D.S. of Overland Park; daughters, Anne Rounds and Jane (Phil) Hesse; son, Ted Relihan; grandchildren, Nick (Becky) Hesse, William Hesse and Erin (Jeff) Kice; great-grandchildren Thomas Kice, Samuel Kice and Margaret Hesse.

In keeping with her wishes, there will be no services.
