PTO awards funds to Sabetha teachers through enhancement program

Submitted by Sabetha PTO

A new program offered by Sabetha PTO has made possible four funding requests from Sabetha teachers.

Through the newly established Classroom Enhancement Program, a total of $1,455 has been awarded to Sabetha teachers during the program’s spring cycle. Teachers receiving funding include the following: Chris Bauerle, agriculture teacher at Sabetha High School; Christine Krebs, science teacher at Sabetha Middle School; Yalana Edelman, Jennifer Streett and Anne Werner, second grade teachers at Sabetha Elementary School; and Megan Hann, kindergarten teacher at SES.

Funding for the 2017-18 awards was made possible through previous PTO Carnivals, as well as the May 2017 Penny Drive conducted at the three Sabetha schools. Three main fundraising activities — cake raffles, Give to Grow Match Day, and a taco feed — conducted this year will provide for the 2018-19 awards.

About the Program

The CEP is aimed at benefiting all three Sabetha schools, by enhancing the education of Sabetha students while also providing support to teachers and staff. All funding is equally available to any certified staff member working in any of the three Sabetha schools.

Eligible classroom enhancements include the following: products or projects to supplement curriculum (consumable and/or sustainable); products or projects that enhance the learning experience of students; products or projects that impact students or their interests that are not otherwise serviced; and products or projects that promote positive behavior.

The Classroom Enhancement Program was established by Sabetha PTO in May 2017. The program is designed to award funds in two cycles each year — a Fall Cycle, awarded in September; and a Spring Cycle, awarded in January. Funds are awarded through an anonymous selection process by a six-person CEP Selection Committee, with two parents representing each of the Sabetha schools.
