Wetmore Cardinals boost their spirit

Hoping to inspire students’ enthusiasm, the Wetmore Student Council members and cheer squad teamed together to create themes for a new pep section. After some rough games, the Wetmore student leaders decided Wetmore needed more spirit.
Student Council held a meeting about the issue and concluded with the solution of making a pep section with special assigned themes for each home game. The groups hope that these themes will promote more spirit.
On Tuesday, Jan. 30, the pep section’s theme was Red and White. There were many students in grades kindergarten through 12 dressed in red and white outfits. For the King and Queen of Courts game, the pep section’s theme was Hawaiian, where flowered shirts and leis abounded.
“I think it is wonderful that so many Wetmore students of all age groups want to be in this pep section,” said cheerleader Lauryn Scott.
Senior Alena Pfrang also was enthusiastic about the pep section.
“The specialized pep section makes us stand out. It makes the players know we care,” Pfrang said.
The players also seemed to enjoy hearing a united pep club.
Sophomore ball player Ashley Flowers said, “Hearing the crowd urge us on really makes us want to try to do our best.”
The Cardinals have only a few more home games left; however, the cheerleaders and student council hope to continue this tradition next year.
