Nemaha County Democrats to meet
Submitted by JoLene Bloom
The Nemaha County Democrats will assemble in the east annex of the Seneca City Library at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 17, for a regular meeting.
Information about Washington Days, the Kc3County Chair Caucus, the Second District Caucus , the State Democratic Meeting, and the seven gubernatorial candidates’ forum and luncheon will be given.
Participants will learn of active and recent filings of candidates for state and local positions, including Dustin Brinkman, Holton resident and Jackson County Democratic Chair, who has announced and filed for the First District of the Kansas State Senate race in 2020 to oppose Dennis Pyle of Hiawatha.
Democratic Nemaha County vice chair and Ray Shinn, Seneca Republican, are coordinating with surrounding counties in both hosting candidates and working toward common goals. They are arranging joint visits with high school seniors to encourage them to register and vote. They will not be endorsing candidates or issues.
The first will be held Tuesday, April 3, at Sabetha High School. This goal of the Nemaha County Democrats is to inform the citizens and encourage them to vote and participate in local politics with civility. If school administrators are interested in this activity, they can contact Don Honig of Onaga, or JoLene Bloom of Seneca.
The next Democratic candidate appearance is Robert Klingenberg, Salina route driver and candidate for Kansas Governor. This will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 31, at the Home Plate Café in Seneca.
Gubernatorial candidate Josh Svaty, Ellsworth farmer and former Kansas Secretary of Agriculture, will visit at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 21, at the Seneca Public Library’s east annex.
To be announced are meet and greets with Brian McClendon of Lawrence, co-creator of Google and Uber, a candidate for Secretary of State who has many suggestions for replacing Kris Kobach; Kansas House Minority Leader Jim Ward of Wichita, and State Senator Laura Kelly of Topeka, who are both gubernatorial candidates among the seven running on the Democratic primary ticket for Aug. 7.
