Batting cage added behind Field 2
Through donation from Sabetha Kiwanis Club, a batting cage has been installed behind Field 2 at the Sports Complex. At the Sabetha City Commission meeting held Monday, April 9, Parks and Recreation Director Jeremy Haverkamp reported that the batting cage needed electricity run to it, but was nearly complete.
Present for the meeting were Mayor Doug Clark, Commissioners Nick Aberle, Norm Schmitt, Julie Burenheide and Maridel Wittmer, City Administrator Doug Allen, Assistant City Administrator Bill Shroyer and City Clerk Steve Compo.

City Administrator Allen inquired as to whether Haverkamp felt youth baseball and softball numbers had increased since the addition of high school baseball and softball during the school year. Haverkamp said baseball numbers have gone up some in the past two years. Softball numbers increased last year and has remained the same this year.
Haverkamp also reported that summer hiring is complete. The Aquatic Center is scheduled to open Saturday, May 26. The heating of the pool will begin in the week prior.
As Police Chief Robert Wahwasuck was absent from the meeting, discussion about code enforcement was minimal. Commissioners decided to table further discussion until the April 23 meeting when Wahwasuck could be available for comment.
Also at the meeting:
Commissioners approved the meeting minutes from March 26 and Wage Resolution No. 2018-04 for summer help. The next regular meeting will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, April 23.
