Lady Jays fall in doubleheader against Perry-Lecompton

After falling in their season opener doubleheader a week prior, the Lady Jays hosted their first home doubleheader Thursday, April 5, against Perry-Lecompton. The Lady Jays struggled offensively during both games and would fall 11-0 in the first game and 16-2 in the second game.

Game one

In the first inning, Perry started off strong scoring five runs three base hits and two errors. Perry’s defense held the Lady Jays scoreless throughout the entire game while they managed to score an additional six runs throughout the game. The Kaws would come away with the first win 11-0.

Starting on the mound for Sabetha was sophomore Rachel Kramer. Kramer threw 73 pitches in 3.1 innings. She allowed 11 runs on 10 hits, while walking four batters. Junior Trista Argabright came in on relief. She threw 24 pitches in 1.2 innings. She allowed zero runs on two hits, while walking one batter.

Game two

In the nightcap, Perry held the lead from the beginning. They scored four runs in the first, one in the second, four in the third, six in the fourth and one in the fifth.

Freshman Hattie Lukert scored Sabetha’s first run for the day after Perry’s pitcher threw a wild pitch. Junior Brooklyn Bauman got on base in the fourth with a triple to right field. Bauman scored when Kramer hit a ground ball to right field. Perry’s defense was still to much, though, for Sabetha. Perry would win the second game 16-2.

Head Coach Lauren Massey said despite the two losses, she is seeing improvement from the team everyday.

“We have continued to grow as a team,” she said. “We are learning the game better and better each time we play. We had some players really step up and show their utility against Perry.”

The Lady Jays traveled to Holton Monday, April 9. These results were not available at The Herald’s press time.
