Grandson of Sabetha residents places in Nebraska State Wrestling Tournament
Carver Konzem, grandson of Jim and Marcia Sauer of Sabetha, placed eighth at the USA Nebraska State Wrestling Tournament in March. This qualified him to represent Nebraska a member of their National Team in Heartland National Elementary/Middle School Duals tournament in Council Bluffs, Iowa, this past weekend.
Only four wrestlers by invitation only were selected in Konzem’s weight class (85 pounds) from Nebraska. Seventy-eight teams traveled as far as Oregon, Georgia and Pennsylvania to compete. Konzem was a member of the Nebraska Blue team, which placed seventh in the Gold Division. The Elementary National Champion was California.
Konzem is 11 years old and in the fifth grade at Ashland-Greenwood Elementary School. He wrestles for both the Ashland Greenwood Bluejays and the MWC Wrestling Academy out of Omaha, Neb., in the fifth- and sixth-grade division. During the regular season, Konzem posted a record of 40 wins, 10 losses and 29 pins. Other highlights include District Champion and Huskerland State Runner-Up.
