Lady Jays fall to Holton in doubleheader

The Lady Jays traveled to Holton, Monday, April 9, to take on the Wildcats in a doubleheader. After two tough games, Sabetha would add another two losses to their record.

Game one

The Lady Jays battled at the plate during the first inning and managed two get junior Hillary Krebs and sophomore Maggi Hughes on base after both batters were walked, but Holton’s defense stepped it up and prevented Sabetha from scoring. Sabetha played tough defense and only allowed one run in the first.

Sabetha continued to battle at the plate through the second, third and fourth innings but Holton’s defense was too much. The game slipped away from the Bluejays in the second when they allowed five runs. Holton would eventually score another four runs in the third and another five in the fourth to seal the 15-0 win.

Krebs took the mound for Sabetha for game one. She allowed 15 runs on nine hits, while striking out two batters and walking six.

Game two

Sabetha struggled in inning one to get runners on base, but managed to tally one run in the second on a base hit, as well as one run in the third on a double. Despite the Bluejays’ effort, Holton would claim the second win of the day by a score of 12-2. Sophomores Rachel Kramer and Sofia Kuenzi each tallied one RBI, while Kramer and junior Brooklyn Bauman each hit a double.

Kramer started on the mound for the Bluejays. She pitched 3.2 innings and surrendered 11 runs on 10 hits, in addition to walking five batters. She was relieved by Krebs, who finished pitching the inning. She allowed one run on one hit.

“Holton was a tough couple games for us,” said Head Coach Lauren Massey. “We had some good at-bats and made good contact at the plate. We are ready to work hard this week to gear up for our next double header.”

The Lady Jays welcomed Nemaha Central to town Monday, April 16, for a doubleheader. These results were not available at The Herald’s press time.
