Local seniors compete in Northeast Kansas All-Star games
Six local athletes competed on Sunday, April 8, in 32nd annual Northeast Kansas All-Star Games hosted by Highland Community College. The navy teams for volleyball and girls’ basketball took the wins for the day, while the gold team for boys’ basketball claimed the win.
Sabetha High School seniors Kymbrie Ulrich and Cassidy Holthaus played for the navy volleyball team. Wetmore High School senior Jill Henry competed for the navy girls’ basketball team.
SHS senior Brett Stallbaumer competed for the navy boys’ basketball team, while SHS senior Kyle Grimm and WHS senior Ethan Osterhaus competed for the gold team.
The first event of the day was volleyball, and the contest ended with the Navy team winning in five sets – 25-19, 24-26, 25-23, 21-25 and 15-12.
Throughout the game, Ulrich tallied four assists and four digs, while Holthaus tallied two aces and five digs.
The second event of the day was the girls’ basketball game. Despite trailing by double figures at multiple times throughout the game, the Navy team would claim the 85-80 win.
During the game, Henry tallied 3 points and three rebounds.
After many lead changes, the boys’ basketball game was decided by just 1 point when the Gold team held off the Navy team and would win by a score of 96-95.
Throughout the game, Osterhaus scored 10 points and tallied five rebounds, while Grimm grabbed a game-high 12 rebound and tallied 8 points. Stallbaumer also added 7 points.
