Lady Jays sweep ACCHS at home

The Sabetha Lady Jays welcomed the ACCHS Tigers to town Monday, April 23. In game one, Sabetha stole the lead late in the game and came away with the 16-13 victory. In game two, the Lady Jays came out on top again with a 16-6 win.

Game One

An error by Sabetha and a double allowed ACCHS to score two runs in the first. The Lady Jays battled back, and at the end of five innings the score was tied 6-6.

ACCHS started the sixth scoring five runs, but Sabetha came out swinging in the bottom of the sixth, doubling ACCHS’s runs and bringing the score to 16-11. ACCHS scored another two in the seventh, but it wasn’t enough and Sabetha would win 16-13.

The Lady Jays tallied 17 hits for the game, with junior Hillary Krebs going 4-5 during the game — including one triple — while freshman Hattie Lukert and junior Trista Argabright went 3-5 during the game. Argabright tallied four RBIs, while freshman Minnie Schumann tallied four.

Sophomore Rachel Kramer started the game for Sabetha. She pitched 5-2/3 innings, allowing 11 runs on seven hits and striking out two batters. Krebs came in on relief. She finished the game surrendering two runs on two hits and striking out one batter.

Game Two

Sabetha tied the game up 1-1 after a wild pitch allowed Kramer to score in the bottom of the first. The Lady Jays then pulled away in the second scoring five additional runs. Sabetha score ten more runs in the fourth, which was led with a home run by sophomore Sofia Kuenzi, triples by sophomore Maggie Hughes and Lukert, and a double by junior Brooklyn Bauman.

Sabetha earned 16 runs on 13 hits for the day, winning the game 16-6.

Kramer took the win for Sabetha, allowing six runs on seven hits.

Head Coach Lauren Massey is excited and proud of the team for their performance.

“This was a great outing by the Bluejays,” she said. “The bats came alive all through the line up and the defense continued to get stronger through the night. This was a great two wins!”
