Brown County Commission 4.30.18

The Board of Brown County Commissioners met in regular session Monday, April 30. Members present were Chairman Steve Roberts, Keith Olsen and Dwight A. Kruse. Also present were County Clerk Melissa Gormley and Deputy County Clerk Dawn Boyles. Roberts opened the meeting at 8:10 a.m.

The commissioners held a 10-minute executive session on non-elected personnel with the three commissioners, Gormley and Boyles present to discuss personnel matters of non-elected personnel with executive session necessary to protect privacy interests. No binding action was taken.

Hiawatha Foundation for Economic Development Director Mikaela Moore updated the commission on the micro-loan for the Bread Bowl. There was a change in the micro-loan to a working capital loan. The commissioners approved the Bread Bowl working capital micro-loan. Moore also updated the Commission on various HFED projects.

Department Reports

Brown County Sheriff John Merchant reported there are 25 inmates – 22 males and three females – currently at the Brown County Jail.

The April 30 month-end claims were approved as follows: General, $84,160.27; Road and Bridge, $62,314.18; Historical Society, $4,166.66; Employee Benefit, $70,035.75; Election, $224.99; Extension, $8,150; Mental Health, $5,850; Developmental Services, $2,254.33; Capital Improvement, $15,608; Appraiser, $1,300.63; Ambulance, $8,391.66; Noxious Weed, $21,581.98; Diversion, $778.77; 911 SB50, $12,315.51; ACC, $3,841.06; JJCR, $6,094.49; Investment Grant, $2,528.01; Federal Ace Funds, $137.54; Services for Elderly, $3,506.53; Solid Waste, $60,025.55 and Payroll, $330.33. The total was $373,596.24.

The April 25 payroll was approved as follows: General, $64,531.61; Road & Bridge, $13,398.77; Election, $1,665.77; Technology, $774.81; Appraiser, $7,140; Noxious Weed, $1,527.25; ACC, $9,301.21; JJA Core, $10,824.39; Reinvestment Grant, $3,024.16; Services for Elderly, $2,613; Solid Waste, $2,724.50; Special MVT, $2,580; Employee Ben FICA, $7,051.27; and Employee Ben KPERS, $8,482.59. After State Unemployment and Work Compensation of $197.87 and Insurance of $10,785.82 were taken out, the total was $124,655.64.

The commissioners approved the minutes of the April 23 regular meeting. Olsen abstained from the vote due to being absent from the April 23 meeting.

The Brown County Commission approved use of the Courthouse and Courthouse Square on June 15 for the Brown County Relay for Life from 5 to 10 p.m.

The Brown County Commission discussed a donation for the Brown County Humane Society. No decision was made.

The next regular meeting will be Monday, May 7.
