Sabetha wins by 76 strokes

The Bluejay golf team traveled to Rossville on Tuesday, May 1, looking to tack another win on to their season as they gear up for the Big 7 League Tournament next week. So far, the team has won five of their six meets this season, with their only sixth-place finish coming from a tournament containing mostly 6A schools.

Competing against Rossville, St. Marys and Silver Lake, Sabetha would bring home their sixth win of the season defeating Rossville in second by 76 strokes.

Head Coach Scott Burger said that the team medaled all six golfers.

“It was a good day,” he said. “The weather was warm and windy, but not as bad as Monday. We medaled all six golfers and had the top five places. Our top three golfers had great scores of 72, 72 and 75. Our depth was much better as we had five scores of 82 or less. Our golfers had two very good meets this week and are playing well.”

Senior Garrett Scott and junior Jesse Burger each shot a 72 for the day, claiming first and second places, respectively. Sophomore David Pierson claimed third with a score of 75.

Senior Tanner Ukele and freshman Riley Lierz tallied 82 strokes on the day, claiming third and fourth placed, respectively. Sophomore Carson Ukele scored a 91 and claimed seventh overall.

The Bluejays will gear up for the Big 7 League Tournament on Wednesday, May 9, at Nemaha Central.
