Bluejays claim Big 7 League title

The Sabetha Bluejay golf team claimed their seventh first place win for this season when they traveled to Nemaha Central to compete in the Big 7 League Tournament Wednesday, May 9.

The team placed first overall with 319 strokes, defeating Jeff West in second by 23 strokes. Other team placings were as follows: Nemaha Central, third, 357; Holton, fourth, 406; and Royal Valley, fifth, 503.

Four out of six Bluejays placed in the top 10 individually. Senior Garrett Scott claimed first with a score of 71, claiming the Big Seven League title by seven strokes, defeating Jeff West’s Preston Stanley with a score of 78. Junior Jesse Burger earned third place with a score of 80, sophomore David Pierson claimed sixth overall with a score of 83, and senior Tanner Ukele came in 10th with a score of 85.

Head Coach Scott Burger said he was really happy with the team and how they performed.

“I was really happy with our team,” he said. “This was the third consecutive year they have won the Big 7 League Championship. We had three golfers medal in the top six and an individual Big 7 League Champion for the second consecutive year.”
