Special hunts program available to landowners
Submitted by Tim Urban
The Special Hunts program leases private land for public hunting; however, the access will be limited. Landowners working with wildlife biologists will determine how many days and what type of hunting they will allow on their property.
Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks, and Tourism (KDWPT) will advertise the hunting opportunities and will take applications for each hunt. Random drawings will determine which hunters will be allowed to hunt properties on specific dates.
In addition to the financial incentive, other components of the program are attractive to landowners. State law provides that private individuals who lease their land to the state for recreational purposes are immune from damages or injuries resulting from ordinary negligence.
For more information or if you are interested in enrolling your property, contact Tim Urban at 913-422-1314 ext. 105. Call soon as enrollment is limited. Deadlines are set to allow posting of properties and time to list hunts on the KDWPT website for drawing prior to hunting seasons.
