Lady Jays fall in first round of regionals

Junior Hillary Krebs throws this pitch during the first round of the 3A Regional Tournament on Monday, May 14, versus Silver Lake.

After finishing regular season play with a 6-14 record, the Sabetha Lady Jays would play host for the 3A Regional Tournament. In the first round of the Regional Tournament on Monday, May 14, Sabetha was matched up with Silver Lake, who they lost a doubleheader to earlier in the season.

In round one, the Lady Jays fell behind early and couldn’t come back in the 10-0 loss to Silver Lake. Sabetha gave up three runs in the first, four in the second, one in the fourth and two in the fifth.

Against the strong offense and defense of Silver Lake, Sabetha struggled to get a hit during the game. Sabetha lost after a run rule in the bottom of the fifth by a score of 10-0.

Sophomore Rachel Kramer started on the mound for Sabetha. She pitched two innings, allowing seven runs on eight hits. She was relieved by junior Hillary Krebs. Krebs pitched the final two innings and allowed three runs on three hits.

Despite the loss and the season coming to a close, Head Coach Lauren Massey said the team continued to get better every day.

“This season we fought hard,” she said. “We did a great job at never giving up and getting better each day. This second season was big for us as a program. We saw growth and our future!”

The Lady Jays finished their season with a 6-15 record.
