Brown County Commission 5.21.18

The Board of Brown County Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, May 21, 2018, with the following members present: Chairman Steve Roberts, Dwight Kruse and Keith Olsen. Also present were County Clerk Melissa Gormley and Deputy County Clerk Dawn Boyles. Roberts opened the meeting at 8:10 a.m.

The commissioners held a 10-minute executive session on non-elected personnel with the three commissioners, Brown County Deputy Appraiser Teresa Clements and Gormley present to discuss personnel matters of non elected personnel with executive session necessary to protect privacy interests. No binding action was taken following the executive session.

Curt Clark has declined the appointment as Interim County Appraiser. The commissioners decided to appoint Clements as Interim County Appraiser.

City of Hiawatha Administrator Mike Nichols presented a contract between the City of Hiawatha and Brown County for use of the county gas system. The commissioners approved the contract between the City of Hiawatha and Brown County.

Department Reports

Brown County Sheriff John Merchant reported that there are 30 inmates – 22 males and eight females – in the County Jail.

Budget Requests

Noxious Weed Director George Bruning presented the 2019 budget request of $164,330 for Noxious Weed Department.

Brown County Extension Director Matt Young, and Extension Council members Steve Chartier and Jesse Clark requested $99,850 as the 2019 Budget request for the Extension. Young requested $10,500 as the 2019 budget request for the Fair Premium funds.

Brown County Developmental Services Director Linda Lock presented the 2019 BCDS budget request of $27,052 for BCDS.

Sandra Carter with IT Department presented the 2019 budget request of $145,940 for the IT Department.

Clements presented the 2019 budget request of $229,085 for the Appraiser’s Department.

Brown County Treasurer Cheryl Lippold presented the 2019 budget request of $221,430 for the Treasurer’s Department.

Brown County Services for the Elderly Director Lori Gray presented the 2019 budget request of $141,276 for the Services for the Elderly Department.

Brown County Register of Deeds Nellie Brockhoff presented the 2019 budget request of $91,460 for the Register of Deeds Department.

Gormley presented the following:

• 2019 budget request of $143,830 for the County Clerk Office.

• 2019 budget request of $118,380 for the Election Office.

• 2019 budget request of $3,996,522 for the Road and Bridge Department.

• 2019 budget request of $193,930 for the Custodian Department.

• 2019 budget request of $1,467,500 for Employee Benefits.

• 2019 budget request of $750,000 for the commissioners.

Also at the meeting:

The commissioners approved the May 14 minutes.

Tax Change orders 2017-91 and 2017-92 were signed and approved.

The next regular meeting will be held Thursday, May 31, to approve month-end bills.
