Governing Body: Nemaha County Commission

The Board of Nemaha County Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, May 21, in the Commissioner’s Room of the Nemaha County Courthouse. The meeting was called to order by Chairman Dennis Henry leading the flag salute. Present also were Commissioners Gary Scoby and Tim Burdiek, Road and Bridge/Solid Waste Supervisor Dennis Ronnebaum, Office Manager Kathy Haverkamp, and County Clerk Mary Kay Schultejans.
Ronnebaum advised the board that:
• The bridge crew is now set up near Goff to begin work on Bridge O-43, which lies between sections 15 and 22 of Harrison Township.
• There are still a few loose ends to tie up on the road project south of Seneca on J Road.
• He has accepted the bid from Husker Steel for the replacement of Bridge M-40 in the City of Centralia.
• Bergkamp Construction will begin work today on the Sabetha-Wetmore Road.
• Haverkamp has met with the representative from BG Consultants to begin the road sign replacement project.
Treasurer Janell Niehues came before the board to request an executive session with commissioners. A 10-minute executive session was held to discuss the pay of non-elected personnel. Present for the executive session were Niehues, Schultejans and commissioners. The meeting returned to open session at 9:40 a.m., with no action taken by the board following the executive session.
Rob Peschel with CES came before the board to check in with commissioners to see if Nemaha County needed assistance from his company on any projects at this time.
John Latham came before the board to speak to commissioners about putting up a sign for the Goff-Fairview Cemetery located on Q Road north of Goff.
County Attorney Brad Lippert came before the board. Lippert spoke with commissioners about the amendment to the lease agreement for the Driver’s License Office in Seneca. Following discussion, commissioners approved the amendment to the lease agreement. Chairman Henry signed the amendment as presented.
Also at the meeting:
Commissioners approved an amendment to the Nemaha County 2018 Reorganization to change the clerk after two years line item of the Courthouse Wages pay scale from $14.99 per hour to $15.42 per hour. This change is to be effective as of May 21.
The board reviewed vouchers submitted by the different departments that were paid at the middle of May. The board reviewed and the minutes from the May 14 meeting.
The commissioners met on Tuesday, May 29. These minutes were not available at The Herald’s press time.
