GOLF – SABETHA HIGH SCHOOL
Junior Jesse Burger dominated the course at the 3A State Golf Tournament in Seneca. Jesse shot a 76 for the day – 41 on the front nine and 35 on the back nine – which is only five strokes over par. Jesse’s score helped put the Bluejays on top, earning them the 3A State Championship. The Jays defeated second place Phillipsburg by two strokes.
Baseball – SABETHA HIGH SCHOOL
Sophomore right fielder Gabe Garber was a tough force for the Bluejays during the 3A State Baseball Championship Tournament, which in turn was a driving force in helping the Bluejays achieve their first State Championship in baseball. Throughout the tournament, Gabe went seven for 11, while tallying nine RBIs. During the championship game against Hays-TMP, Gabe hit two triples in his first two at bats. He also had a single in the fourth inning and scored three runs.
Girls’ 4×800-Meter Relay team
Skylar McAfee, Nikki Kuenzi, Hunter Lowdermilk, Hattie Lukert
TRACK & FIELD – SABETHA HIGH SCHOOL
The girls’ 4×800-meter relay team of freshman Hattie Lukert, sophomore Nikki Kuenzi and juniors Hunter Lowdermilk and Skylar McAfee earned a gold medal at the State Track and Field Championships this past weekend. The team not only finished first, but also broke a 1998 school record, finishing with a time of 9:56.03. The time was a personal best for the team by 18 seconds. Additionally, each girl improved her personal split times in the relay by at least three seconds.
