Sabetha High School Spring Sports Honors: Track and Field

Track and Field 

The Sabetha High School Bluejay track and field teams concluded the season at the State Track and Field Championships held May 25 and 26, in Wichita. The Jays medaled in five events at state, including one gold medalist. The Jays competed in nine meets (including state). 

Kyle Grimm – Senior

Award – Big 7 All League Javelin

Best Javelin – 181 feet, 9 inches at Big 7 Quad at Sabetha

Broke 2015 new-style javelin school record of 170 feet, 1 inch at Big 7 Quad

Braeden Cox – Junior

Awards – All State HM 4×800-meter relay, Big 7 All League HM 4×800-meter relay

Best 4×800-meter relay – 8:26.69 at State

State – Fifth in 4×800-meter relay

Mason Engelken – Junior

Awards – All State HM 110-meter hurdles, All State HM 300-meter hurdles, Big 7 All League 110-meter hurdles, Big 7 All League 300-meter hurdles

Best 110-meter hurdles – 14.64 at Big 7 League at Royal Valley

Best 300-meter hurdles – 39.37 at Big 7 League at Royal Valley

Broke 1981 300-meter hurdle school record of 40.6 at Big 7 League

Tied 1997 110-meter hurdle record at Big 7 League

State – Fourth in 300-meter hurdles, fifth in 110-meter hurdles

Henry Glynn – Junior

Awards – All State HM 4×800-meter relay, Big 7 All League HM 4×800-meter relay

Best 4×800-meter relay – 8:26.69 at State

State – Fifth in 4×800-meter relay

Hunter Lowdermilk – Junior

Awards – All State 4×800-meter relay, Big 7 All League 4×800-meter relay

Skylar McAfee – Junior

Nikole Kuenzi – Sophomore

Editor’s Note: To earn All State, track and field athletes must place in the top two at State. To earn All State Honorable Mention (HM), athletes must place third through eighth at State. To earn All League, athletes must place first at League. To earn All League Honorable Mention (HM), athletes must place second at League.
