Annual car show draws 69 paid entries

Submitted by Bart White

The 20th Annual Twisters Car Show was held Saturday, June 9. This year’s show was held around the Mary Cotton Public Library in Sabetha with 69 paid entries and about 15 club member vehicles present.

As is so typical of the Twister’s Car Show, the weather was threatening in the north, which kept away our northern car enthusiasts. The day ended with high temperatures in the mid 90s.

The Ernie Hoppe Memorial Award is presented to Jim Argabright for his 54-year commitment to restoring his 1950 Ford Convertible. The trophy included an original piston from the car and was signed by Ernie Hoppe. It was presented to Argabright by Jane Hoppe, Darryl Hoppe and Darwin Hoppe. Pictured are (L-R) Jim Argabright, Jane Hoppe, Darryl Hoppe and Darwin Hoppe.

The show was opened with an invocation by Associate Pastor Sean Kilgo of the Northeast Kansas Lutheran Partnership. Following the invocation was the Ernie Hoppe Memorial Award, which was presented to Jim Argabright for his 54-year commitment to restoring his 1950 Ford Convertible. A trophy that included an original piston from the car and was signed by Ernie Hoppe, was presented to Argabright by Jane Hoppe, Darryl Hoppe and Darwin Hoppe.

The club sponsored an in-the-park Poker Walk for the registered car owners. The winning hand was drawn by Mark Bergman of Seneca, who had a straight. The three other bests hands were drawn by Michael Fritz, Cory Nolte and Mike Kaster.

Hot Wheel Races are enjoyed by not only children but adults. This is one way the club helps to get the youth involved in cars. The trophy winners of the Hot Wheel Races this year were: first place, Seth Lawrence; second place, Warner Erdley; third place, John Sunnenberg, and fourth place, Nakita Lawrence.
