Lobos fall in three-game series to Junction City

The Sabetha Lobos traveled to Junction City on Friday and Saturday, June 8 and 9, to take on the Brigade in a three game series. The Lobos couldn’t keep up with the Brigade in any of the games and would fall in the series 0-3.

Game one

The first game on Friday, June 8, started off with both teams tallying two runs in the first inning. The Lobos scored their first two runs off a home run by Aaron Fuller. The Lobos scored their third run in the second inning, but Junction City pulled away in the bottom of the second scoring four runs and holding on to the lead for the remainder of the game. Junction City would eventually win by a score of 11-5.

The Lobos tallied seven hits, while the Brigade tallied 10. The Lobos were led offensively by Fuller and Luis Samayoa. Fuller went two for four, tallying three RBIs. Samayoa went two for three on the day.

Jose Suero started on the mound for the Lobos. He pitched two full innings, allowing six runs on five hits while walking six batters and striking out two.

Suero was relieved by Victor Castro, who also pitched two full innings. He surrendered one run on two hits, while striking out two batters.

Diego Martinez came on in relief and pitched the final two innings, surrendering four runs on three hits.

Game two

In game two on Friday, June 8, Junction City got on the board first — scoring one run in the first inning. The Lobos struggled to get runners around the bases, while Junction City’s offense continued to dominate the field. The Lobos scored one run in the sixth, but couldn’t tally any more runs. The Lobos would fall in game two, 11-1.

Sabetha scored one run on six hits, while the Brigade scored 11 runs on 11 hits.

Dalton VanHoutan started on the mound for the Lobos, pitching 3-2/3 innings. He allowed five runs on three hits, while striking out two batters and walking five.

VanHoutan was relieved by Junior Figueroa, who pitched the final 2-1/3 innings. He surrendered six runs on eight hits, while striking out one batter.

Game three

Game three started off a little better for Sabetha, when they scored one run in the first, two in the second and another run in both the third and fourth innings.

Junction City still controlled the game, though, by scoring one run in the first, five in the second, one in the third and fourth. Junction City continued scoring two in the fifth, three in the sixth and four in the eighth. The Brigade would win 17-6.

The Lobos were led by Charley Harbor, who went three for four, tallying two RBIs and two runs. Throughout the game, Harbor hit a triple and a home run.

Starting on the mound for the Lobos was Juan Perdomos, who pitched the first 3-1/3 innings. He allowed eight runs on 10 hits, while striking out three batters and walking six.

Perdomos was relieved by Albert Ordoñez, who pitched the next 2-1/3 innings. He surrendered five runs on six hits, while striking out four batters and walking two.

Ivan Medina came on in relief, throwing two full innings. He surrendered four runs on seven hits, while striking out three batters and walking four.
