Raptors take second in Marysville Classic

After falling to Silver Lake earlier in the week, the Sabetha American Legion Raptors traveled to Marysville to compete in the Marysville Classic Tournament on Saturday and Sunday, June 9 and 10, in hopes of bringing home the gold.

After winning their first two games, the Raptors would meet Marysville in the championship game.

The championship game came down to the final inning and Marysville would win the tournament and Sabetha would take second.

Opening round

Sabetha opened the tournament against Lincoln Lutheran. Sabetha got on the board first with two runs in the first inning.

The Raptors controlled the game from the beginning and would take the 10-0 win after just five innings.

Braden Argabright and Seth Burdick led the Raptors offensively.

Argabright went two for three on the day, tallying three RBIs with two triples. Burdick went three for three on the day and tallying two RBIs. Riley Herrmann also went two for three on the day with two runs scored.

Argabright threw just 44 pitches during the five inning game.

Semi-finals

In the semi-final round, Sabetha took on Lincoln County. The Raptors controlled this game as well with Lincoln County scoring their only two runs in the first inning.

Sabetha led 6-2 when they headed into the sixth inning. The Raptors exploded on offense to notch another eight runs. Sabetha would win 14-3 and would face Marysville on Sunday, June 10.

Joe Gruber went three for four during the game, with one run scored and one RBI.

Brandon Brownlee, Ryan Stapleton and Argabright each collected two hits during the game, and collected one RBI apiece. Burdick knocked in three RBIs when he went one for two during the game.

Gruber pitched five innings during the game.

Finals

The Raptors went up against Marysville in the championship game on Sunday, June 10. Marysville got on the board first with three runs in the first inning. Sabetha slowly closed the gap, scoring one run in the second, fourth and fifth innings.

The score was tied 3-3 heading into the seventh and final inning. Marysville took advantage of a Sabetha error to tally their last run in the 4-3 win.

Brett Stallbaumer and Brownlee each went two for four during the game, with Stallbaumer tallying two RBIs.

Brayden Becker pitched 5-2/3 innings for Sabetha, surrendering four runs on three hits, while striking out 11 batters and walking one.
