Lobos drop two games to Midwest A’s

After a couple of losses the previous week, the Sabetha Lobos were hoping to add a couple of wins to their record when they took on the Midwest A’s last week.

The Lobos played host on the first night – Monday, June 11 – and with the severe weather moving into town, the game would be called at the top of the seventh. The Lobos would take the loss by a score of 8-2.

The Lobos traveled would travel to Belton, Mo., on Tuesday, June 12, and after eight innings of play, Sabetha would take their second loss to the A’s 10-0.

Game one

Game one started with the A’s lead off batter hitting a double. Batters two and three were two consecutive outs for the Lobos, with one being thrown out at first and the second being struck out. Clean-up batter – Duante Freeman –  hit a home run, driving in two runs to put the A’s on the board first.

The Lobos tied the score up in the third with two doubles – one hit by Trae Bobo and one by Elliott Antonetty. Both teams were scoreless in the fourth, but the A’s would pull ahead in the fifth, adding two runs, and would add another two runs in the sixth – both on home runs. The A’s extended their lead in the seventh with an additional two runs, while the Lobos struggled to get on base in the final innings.

Severe weather cut the game short, and the A’s would win the 8-2.

Eduar Brito started on the mound for Sabetha. He pitched a solid six innings, allowing six runs on eight hits, while striking out six batters and walking two.

Brito was relieved by Diego Martinez, who pitched the final inning. He surrendered two runs on two hits, striking out one batter while walking two.

Game two

The A’s took control of the game early on when they started off by scoring two runs in the first inning. They scored another run in the second, two in the fifth, three in the sixth and two in the eighth, while holding the Lobos scoreless throughout the game. The Lobos would lose the second game as well, 10-0.

Junior Figueroa started on the mound for the Lobos pitching six full innings. He allowed eight runs on seven hits, whiles striking out three batters and walking six.

Jose Suero came in on relief — pitching one inning. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out two batters.

Suero was relieved by Michael Colon, who pitched the final 1/3 inning. He allowed two runs on four hits.
