Lobos fall in series to Topeka Golden Giants

The Sabetha Lobos competed against the Topeka Golden Giants last week with two away games and one game at home. The Lobos couldn’t keep up with the Giants in any of the three games and would fall 0-3 in the series

Game One

On Thursday, June 14, the Lobos traveled to Topeka for the first of three games. The Giants got on the board first with one run in the first inning and two in the second.

The Lobos tallied their first run of the game in the third inning when Aaron Fuller hit a home run. Topeka tacked on three more runs in the fourth, and one in both the seventh and eighth innings.

The Lobos closed the gap in the eighth scoring three more runs on another home run by Fuller, but it wasn’t enough. The Giants won the first game 8-4.

Fuller went three for four at the plate, collecting two runs and tallying four RBIs.

Dalton VanHoutan started on the mound for the Lobos. He pitched four innings, allowing six runs on seven hits, while striking out one batter and walking three.

VanHoutan was relieved by Alejandro Amezquita who pitched the final four innings. He surrendered two runs on four hits, while striking out two batters.

Game Two

On Friday, June 15, the Lobos hosted Topeka for game two. Both teams went run for run in the first four innings, collecting two runs each in the second and one in the third.

Topeka would take the big lead in the fifth inning when they collected five runs and then another three runs in the sixth, two in the seventh and one in the ninth. The Lobos managed just one run in the fifth and three in the sixth. Topeka would win game two 14-7.

Charley Harbor and Eddy Pimentel each collected one home run during the game; while Trae Bobo collected two doubles, going three for four at the plate and tallying four RBIs.

The Lobos filtered through five pitchers – Juan Perdomos, Albert Ordoñez, Jose Suero, Diego Martinez and Junior Figueroa – throughout the game. Together they allowed 14 runs on 13 hits, while striking out nine batters and walking 12.

Game Three

The Lobos went back to Topeka for game three on Saturday, June 16. Topeka took the early lead again with two runs in the first inning and one in the second. Sabetha got on the board in the third with two runs, but Topeka extended their lead in the fourth by six.

The Lobos fought back in the fifth scoring three runs and another one in the sixth, but the damage was already done. The Giants would eventually win 14-6.

Jose Marroquin went two four at the plate for the day, while tallying three RBIs.

Lobos pitchers took the mound during the game. Eduar Brito started on the mound going 3-1/3 innings. He allowed nine runs on seven hits, while striking out two batters and walking three.

Brito was relieved by Alejandro Amezquita who pitched 1-2/3 innings, striking out one batter.

Brandon Gonzalez relieved Amezquita, going two full innings. He allowed five runs on three hits, while striking out one batter and walking five.

Figueroa relieved Gonzalez for the final inning.
