The Goff High School Alumni Reunion was held on Sunday, May 27, at the Goff Community Building, and was attended by 53 alumni and guests. A social hour preceded lunch and was enjoyed by all with lively conversations about school days, the renewal of friendships and a whirlwind summary of life occurrences since graduation.

A special table was provided for the members of the Class of 1958, who were celebrating their 60th alumni year. Seven of the 12 1958 graduates were present, including Gary Bell, Ruth Carlson Sparks, Carolyn Fund Bell, Dorothy Hawley Edwards, Nancy Richards Lafond, Virginia Sourk Cook and Leroy Steele. A delicious meal, catered by Corn Crib Catering of Corning, was served.

Helen Levret Sourk, presiding, began the meeting by honoring the Class of 1958, sharing her own fond childhood memories of the class members, as her older sister, Patricia (Patti) Levret Grollmes, was a member of the class. Roll call revealed Sarah Sourk Rainey, Class of 1937, as the eldest graduate attending.

Carol McKee conducted a Memorial Service for graduates deceased since May 2017. Those honored and their graduation class were: Alice McKee Johnson, 1937; Virginia Gates George, 1939; William “Bill” Huerter, 1944; Darlene Whaley Holliday, 1946; Darwin Holliday, 1947; Betty Jean Rainey Snair, 1948; Harold Massek, 1953; and Bobbie Burget, 1958.

Following the business meeting, alumni prizes were awarded to Sarah Sourk Rainey as the oldest female graduate in attendance, Tom Gold, 1942, as the oldest male graduate; and Jim and Kay (Kiernan) McKee for having traveled the farthest — having come from New Underwood, S.D.

Three door prize “Welcome” signs were awarded, of a large galvanized tin cut-out Goff Rooster mascot, encircled by a distressed wooden ring. Also, GHS alumni member Carol McKee supplied a dozen small hand carved wooden roosters she purchased in China as prizes.

The meeting was closed with attendees singing the GHS school song and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. This year’s committee announced that the Class of 1958 will host the 2019 meeting to be held Sunday, May 26, 2019, at the Goff Community Building.
