Sabetha Red defeats Hiawatha, Onaga

The Sabetha Red team also welcomed Onaga and Hiawatha to town on Friday, June 22, for doubleheader action. They would win both games, even after a slow start against Hiawatha.

Hiawatha

Hiawatha got on the board first with four runs in the first inning. Sabetha struggled through the first three innings to get any runners around the bases. In the fourth inning they managed to score their first run of the game. They did the same in the fifth, as they slowly began to close the gap.

The score was 4-2 with Hiawatha leading, going into the sixth inning. Sabetha exploded on offense in the sixth — scoring seven runs, which earned them the lead and the 9-4 win.

Grace Enneking and Sofia Kuenzi each went two for three at the plate, each driving in two RBIs. Enneking also scored two runs, while Kuenzi scored one.

Onaga

Sabetha and Onaga both scored in the first inning, but Sabetha was in the lead at the end of one with a score of 5-3. Sabetha kept the momentum going, scoring five runs in the second, seven in the third and another two in the fourth.

Onaga was slow to make a comeback, when they remained scoreless during innings two and three. They scored one in the fourth and got the bats going in the fifth, scoring seven runs, but it wasn’t enough for a win. Sabetha would win 19-11.

Kuenzi, Maggi Hughes, Amelia Martin and Hillary Krebs led Sabetha offensively, each going three for the four at the plate. Martin and Hughes each tallied four RBIs apiece, while Krebs tallied one and Kuenzi tallied two. Krebs and Hughes each scored four runs each, while Kuenzi scored three.
