Lobos defeat Ottawa 2-1 in series

The Sabetha Lobos hit the road this past week to take on the Ottawa River Bandits in a three-game series. The Lobos went 2-1 against Ottawa — winning the first two games and falling in the final game.

Game one

The Lobos played the first game Friday, June 29. Ottawa got on the board first, scoring one run in the second inning, while Sabetha finally got on the board in the third inning — scoring two runs. Ottawa advanced their lead in the bottom of the third with another six runs scored. They extended their lead in the fourth, scoring another two runs and then three runs in the fifth. Sabetha scored four runs in both of the fifth and sixth inning and took the lead, and the win when they scored two runs in the eighth and three in the ninth. Sabetha would win game one 15-12.

Aaron Fuller went four of five at the plate, with two runs scored and three RBIs batted in. Luis Samayoa also tallied three RBIs.

Dalton VanHoutan pitched the first 2-2/3 innings. He allowed seven runs on six hits, while walking two batters and striking out four.

VanHoutan was relieved by Eduar Brito, who pitched 5-2/3 innings. He allowed five runs on 11 hits, while striking out three batters and walking one.

Brito was relieved by Alejandro Amezquita, who struck out one batter.

Game two

The Lobos jumped out to an early lead in game two on Saturday, June 30, while the Lobos defense held Ottawa scoreless the entire game. The Lobos would win the second game, 19-0.

Eddy Pimentel collected two hits on the night, both of them home runs. He also collected seven RBIs, while scoring three runs.

Jose Suero pitched the entire game for Sabetha. He allowed five hits, while striking out seven batters and walking one.

Game three

Ottawa jumped out to a quick lead in the nightcap game on Saturday, June 30. They scored three runs in the first inning, but Sabetha came back to grab the lead after they scored four runs in the second.

Ottawa regained the lead in the third with an additional four runs scored. Sabetha closed the gap in the fourth with two runs scored, but it wasn’t enough for the win. Ottawa would win the final game of the series, 7-6.

Brandon Gonzalez and Kevin Ruiz each collected two hits during the game.

Junior Figueroa pitched the first three innings, allowing seven runs on six hits, striking out six batters and walking two. He was relieved by Brandon Gonzalez on the Lobos roster. He pitched the final inning, striking out one batter.
