Lobos go 1-2 in series with Knights

The Sabetha Lobos took on the Kansas City Knights last week in a three game series in which they would finish 1-2. The Lobos would win game one at home but would fall in the final two games in Kansas City.

Game one

On Monday, June 25, the Knights got on the board first scoring one run in the first inning. They extended their lead in the second and third innings, adding two runs in the second and one in the third. Sabetha finally got on the board in the fourth inning when Eddy Pimentel hit a home run, driving in two runs.

Sabetha advanced their lead and tied the game up in the fifth — adding another two runs on a double by Jose Marroquin. Kansas City took the lead back in the sixth — scoring an additional four runs, while Sabetha only scored one. Sabetha clinched the lead again in the bottom of the eighth to claim the 9-8 win.

Pimentel went three for three at the plate – one home run and two doubles – scoring two runs and tallying two RBIs. Marroquin also went one for three at the plate, tallying three RBIs.

Alejandro Amezquita started on the plate for the Lobos — pitching five innings and allowing four runs on seven hits, while striking out five batters and walking one.

Ivan Medina came in on relief, throwing 1-2/3 innings. He allowed four runs on six hits, while walking four batters.

He was relieved by Michael Colón, who pitched 1-1/3 innings and surrendered zero runs on zero hits, while striking out two batters and walking two.

Colón was relieved by Junior Figueroa, who threw the final inning for the Lobos. He allowed zero runs on zero hits, while striking out one batter.

Game two

In the first game on Tuesday, June 26, Sabetha scored one run in the top of the first, but Kansas City scored two. Sabetha fought back in the second, but only managed to score one additional run.

Kansas City doubled their runs in the second. Kansas City added another run in the fourth. Sabetha closed the gap in the fifth, adding an additional two runs but it wasn’t enough. Kansas City won after 6-1/2 innings, 5-4.

The Lobos totaled five hits during the game with Pimentel, Trae Bobo, Elliott Antonetty, Luis Quinones and Carlos Reynoso each collecting one hit.

Eduar Brito started on the mound for the Lobos, throwing the first inning. He allowed four runs on four hits, while striking out one batter and walking three.

Figueroa came in on relief, throwing the final five innings. He surrendered one run on four hits, while striking out four batters and walking three.

Game three

The Knights offense started the nightcap game off with a bang, scoring four runs in the first, while the Knights defense kept the Lobos from scoring throughout the entire game. The Knights would eventually win in five innings, 11-0.

Antonetty, Pimentel, Quinones, and Issac Muncy-Reyes each tallied one hit during the shutout, while Bobo tallied two hits.

Juan Perdomos started on the mound for the Lobos, pitching 1-1/3 innings. He surrendered six runs on three hits, while striking out one batter and walking four.

Perdomos was relieved by Diego Martinez, who pitched the final three innings. He allowed five runs on two hits, while striking out four batters and walking six.
