Sabetha Red wins tournament championship

The Sabetha Red softball team traveled to Onaga Thursday, June 28, to compete in the season-ending tournament.

They would meet up with Hiawatha in the first game and Onaga in the Championship game.

After the championship game went into an extra inning, Sabetha would claim the gold.

Game one

Hiawatha got on the board first and took a big lead after scoring two runs in both the first and second innings and another one in the third.

Sabetha finally got on the board in the third inning, when they scored seven runs and claimed the lead.

Sabetha extended their lead substantially in the fourth when they added an additional seven runs.

Hiawatha scored three in the top of the fifth, but Sabetha was too far out of reach. Sabetha won their first round game, 14-8.

Hillary Krebs, Hannah Enneking and Mahalie Allen each went two for three at the plate, with Krebs and Enneking scoring two runs each. Allen drove in five RBIs, while Krebs tallied four.

Game two

Sabetha met up with Onaga in the Championship game. Onaga got on the board first, scoring three runs in the second inning. Sabetha got on the board in the third scoring two runs.

Both teams scored two runs in the fourth, and Onaga added another in the fifth. Sabetha tied things up 6-6 in the sixth. Both teams’ defenses held the other one scoreless in the seventh, causing the game to go into an extra inning.

Sabetha came out on top after scoring two runs in the extra inning, while Onaga remained scoreless. Sabetha would win the championship game 8-6.

Sofia Kuenzi went three for four at the plate, while scoring two runs. Maddie Herrmann, Allen and Krebs also drove in two RBIs each during the game.

Sabetha Red finished the season with an undefeated 10-0 record.
