Carlson scheduled to appear in court

A Sabetha man who has been charged with aggravated indecent liberties with a child and sexual exploitation of a child is scheduled to appear in court next week.

Eric Carlson, 27, is scheduled for his preliminary hearing at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 17.

Carlson was arrested and charged in May 2018 for aggravated indecent liberties with a child and two counts of sexual exploitation of a child after an investigation was conducted by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Nemaha County Sheriff’s Department, the Wichita Police Department, and the Hiawatha Police Department.

It is alleged that in 2017, Carlson engaged in lewd fondling or touching of a child under 14 years of age, and also used, persuaded, induced, enticed or coerced this same child to engage in sexually explicit conduct with the intent to promote the performance.

The complaint also alleges that Carlson promoted a performance that included sexually explicit conduct by a second child under 14 years of age, knowing the character and content of the performance.

If convicted, the defendant could be sentenced under Jessica’s Law for all three offenses, which would result in a life sentence without the possibility of parole for 25 years.

Nemaha County Attorney Brad Lippert said that one victim in Carlson’s case is also a victim in a similar case in Brown County involving 27-year-old Roy Tidwell III of Sabetha. Tidwell was arrested on Friday, May 4, in Hiawatha.
