Lobos fall in series to Junction City

After a week long hiatus from games, the Sabetha Lobos welcomed Junction City to town Friday and Saturday, July 6 and 7. The Lobos struggled to keep up with the Brigade, and would lose each of the games – 7-3 in the first, 11-0 in the second and 16-7 in the third.

Game one

The Lobos took the first lead in the Friday game when they scored one run in the second inning. Junction City took the lead when they scored two runs.

The Lobos claimed the lead again when they scored two more runs in the fifth, but the Brigade claimed the lead on last time in the sixth after they scored two more runs. Junction City extended their lead by scoring two runs in the eighth inning and one in the ninth inning, while the Lobos remained scoreless in the final four innings. Junction City won, 7-3.

Elliot Antonetty led the Lobos offensively when he went two for five at the plate, scoring one run and knocking in one RBI.

Jose Suero pitched the first 6-1/3 innings for the Lobos. He allowed four runs on eight hits, while striking out seven batters and walking three.

Alejandro Amezquita came in on relief and pitched 2-2/3 innings. He allowed three runs on three hits, while striking out three batters and walking one.

Game two

Game two took place at 4:05 p.m. Saturday, July 7. Junction City got on the board first in the second inning with four runs scored, while the Lobos were held scoreless throughout the game. The Brigade continue scoring throughout the game and eventually won, 11-0.

Antonetty, Trae Bobo and Charley Harbor each collected hits for the Lobos.

Dalton VanHoutan pitched the first three innings for the Lobos. He surrendered six runs on six hits, while striking out two batters and walking three.

Amezquita came in on relief, pitching the next two innings. He  allowed two runs on one hit, while walking five batters.

Michael Colón came in on relief, throwing the final inning. He surrendered three runs on one hit, while striking out one batter and walking two.

Game three

Game three took place after the second game on Saturday, July 7. The Brigade got on the board first with four runs in the first inning. Sabetha took the lead in the second when they scored six runs.

Junction City took the lead again in the fourth with three runs, and then extended their lead in the fifth by another four runs and another five in the seventh. Junction City won the final game, 16-7.

Antonetty led the Lobos offensively, going two for four at the plates and knocking in three RBIs.

Junior Figueroa pitched the first 3-2/3 innings. He allowed seven runs on 10 hits, while striking out three batters and walking three batters.

VanHoutan came in on relief, throwing 1-1/3 innings. He allowed four runs on three hits, while walking two batters.

VanHoutan was relieved by Diego Martinez. He allowed five runs on five hits, while striking out one batter and walking one.
