Planning Commission to consider communications tower proposal
The Sabetha Planning Commission will be considering a conditional use permit application to build a telecommunications tower at the approximate location of 9 East Main Street in Sabetha, which would place this tower between U.S. Highway 75 and Old Highway 75, just south of the Bern-Sabetha Veterinary Clinic and N&N Storage Units.
The City of Sabetha’s Public Notice for “Official Notice of Zoning Hearing” states that anyone who wants to be heard on this matter should appear at the hearing, which will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, in the Commission Room at Sabetha City Hall. See the Public Notice on Page 7A of this week’s Herald for more information.
This notice comes one week after a Public Notice was published stating that Tillman Infrastructure is proposing to build a 320-foot Self-Support Communications Tower at the approximately vicinity of 15 Main Street in Sabetha. The Tillman Infrastructure notice stated that public comments regarding potential effects from this site on historic properties may be submitted within 30 days — by Aug. 2 — to Trileaf Corporation.
Despite the difference in approximate addresses, Sabetha City Attorney Martin Mishler said both notices are in relation to the same proposed structure.
Mishler said the City has asked the Kansas Department of Transportation’s Aviation Department to review the request, because of the height of the tower and the proximity to the airport runway.
