Lady Jays compete at Seaman

Seniors Kirsten Wenger, left, and Brooklyn Bauman, right, compete in number one doubles at Seaman Wednesday, September 5. The duo went 3-1 for the day and placed third overall.

Although most of their competitions were canceled last week due to weather, the Lady Jays tennis team managed to get in one meet on Wednesday, Sept. 5, at Seaman.

“The weather only allowed us to go to 6 in a set,” said Head Coach Alicia Deters. “But, the girls saw some great competition and were able to pick up some wins.”

Junior Bree Voos competed in number two singles and brought home a second-place finish. She defeated Emerson of Highland Park and Cook of Shawnee Heights, but fell to Find of Seaman.

Juniors Kinsey Menold and Hannah Wertenberger also placed second for the day in number two doubles. They went 2-1 overall, defeating Ward and Landry of Shawnee Heights, and Park and Brox of Manhattan. They also had a bye in the first round.

Seniors Brooklyn Bauman and Kirsten Wenger placed third overall in number one doubles after going 3-1 and defeating Briggs and Laterdress of Seaman, Bolider and Feyr of Wabaunsee, and Esclante and Grittman of Highland Park. They also had a bye in the first round.

Senior Ashten Halls played for Sabetha in number one singles. She went 0-3 on the day, falling to Seaman and Manhattan.
