Cardinals fall to Frankfort

After falling to Blue Valley the week prior, the Wetmore Cardinals were looking for a win when they welcomed Frankfort to town on Friday, Sept. 21. After a rough first quarter, the Cardinals would eventually fall 52-0.

“Frankfort was just too much for us on both sides of the ball,” said Head Coach Rick Schnacker. “They ran the ball well and were aggressive on defense.”

Frankfort ran the ball in the first quarter and took a significant lead. At the end of the first quarter, the score was 46-0 Frankfort. The Cardinals defense stepped up in the second quarter and held Frankfort to just one touchdown. The game ended after the second quarter with a final score of 52-0.

Senior Joel Hutfles tallied four tackles and 16 rushes for 59 yards throughout the game, while sophomore Kael McQueen tallied one catch for 12 yards.

Despite the loss, Schnacker said the Cardinals played hard, and the team is preparing for next week.

“We played much better and our efforts were better but we fell short of our goals,” he said. “We played hard and never quit. We need to learn from this game and move forward and prepare for Axtell.”

Wetmore will travel to Axtell on Friday, Sept. 28, for their next match-up.
