Sabetha defeats Cornerstone at home

The Sabetha tennis team took a break from traveling to host Cornerstone on Thursday, Sept. 20, at home. The team won the home meet, going 12-4 for the day.

Head Coach Alicia Deters said she was really impressed with the singles players.

Senior Jessica Payne went 2-0 for the day in singles, defeating Julia and Anna. Junior Gracie Robinson, senior Ashten Halls and sophomore Ashlyn Menold all went 1-1 for the day in singles, taking three of Sabetha’s four losses for the day.

Competing in doubles were sophomore Nicole Stallbaumer and junior Olivia Meyer, juniors Emily Murchison and Amber Menold, juniors Deborah Edelman and Hannah Whittaker, and sophomore Lauren Gatz and junior Jeanelle Wenger.

Three of Sabetha’s doubles teams went 2-0 for the day. Those teams were: Stallbaumer and Meyer, Murchison and Amber Menold, and Edelman and Whittaker.

The tennis team competed at Hayden Monday, Sept. 24, and Tuesday, Sept. 25. These results were not available at The Herald’s press time. The Lady Jays also will be traveling to Washburn Rural on Wednesday, Sept. 26.
