Hanover defeats Wetmore

The Wetmore Cardinals traveled to Hanover on Friday, Oct. 12, to take on the Wildcats on their home field. After three quarters, Hanover would win 52-6.

“Hanover is a good team, they are well coached and disciplined,” said Head Coach Rick Schnacker. “We showed improvement in our execution but in the end, Hanover was just too much for us.”

Senior Joel Hutfles scored a touchdown in the first quarter on a 46-yard punt return. The Cardinals attempted a two-point conversion after but the pass failed. Hanover scored two touchdowns in the first quarter. At the end of one, Hanover led 14-6.

Hanover kept the momentum up, and Wetmore’s defense couldn’t stop them. At the end of the first half, Hanover extended their lead to 38-6.

Hanover came back out in the third and scores two more touchdowns and won the game 52-6.

Hutfles tallied one sack and 28 rushes for 90 yards, as well as 10 tackles. Sophomore Kael McQueen tallied four tackles, two receptions for 22 yards and four rushing yards.

“I can’t say enough about our efforts, we played hard and these boys should be proud,” Schnacker said. “I thought we took a big step forward tonight in our execution and efforts against a very good team. We need to continue to gain experience and prepare for our next game. We have two games left and can end the season on a positive note.”

Wetmore will travel to Onaga on Friday, Oct. 19, for their last regular season game.
