WHS Football: Cardinals defeat Tescott
The Wetmore High School football team made the trek to Tescott High School for their district gridiron match-up on Thursday, Oct. 25. It was the Cardinals’ final game of the season, and they made it count — defeating Tescott, 60-14.
Wetmore got on the board first, scoring twice in the first quarter. Kael McQueen scored first on a 30-yard pass from Joel Hutfles. The extra point attempt failed. Still in the first, Hutfles scored on a 33-yard run. Hippolyte Pascal ran it in for the extra points.
The Cardinals added four more touchdowns in the second quarter, all by Hutfles — a 7-yard run, 25-yard run, 50-yard kickoff return and a 45-yard run. Twice, the cardinals were able to get the extra points — once on a run by Pascal, and once by Hutfles.
Tescott also put points on the board in the second with two touchdowns.
Wetmore added three more scores in the third quarter — two runs by Hutfles and one by McQueen. Hutfles scored on an 18-yard run, and a 35-yard run. McQueen scored on a 25-yard run. Extra point runs failed.
No more points were scored, but Wetmore had sealed the 60-14 win.
Hutfles totaled 225 rushing yards on 16 rushes, while McQueen tallied 37 total rushing yards on five rushes as well as 69 catching yards on two receptions. Both Hutfles and McQueen tallied one interception, as well. Jonathan Hladky-Bailey tallied one fumble recovery.
