Organization News: Sabetha Chamber of Commerce

The Sabetha Chamber of Commerce held their monthly board meeting on Monday, Nov. 12. The meeting was called to order by the Chamber’s president Cindy Alderfer. Others present were: Caitlin Kelch, Dayra Menold, Chris Grote, Marlene Bosworth, Julie Burenheide, Brendon Garrett and Gina Murchison

The chamber approved the minutes as read. The chamber accepted the financial reports and they were placed on file for audit.

Unfinished Business

Citizen of the Year: Citizen of the Year will be announced at the Sabetha Community Gala on Jan. 12, 2019.

Membership: Membership will go out the first part of January.

Website Committee: We have a proposal from Brian Tesene, owner of Outdoor Resources for our new website. The website was tabled because we have several questions that need clarified before we vote on the website.

Window Opening: The Chamber is very excited to announce that Santa will be bringing along two of his favorite reindeer to Window Opening on Friday, Nov. 23. The children in the community will be able to visit with Santa at City Hall from 6 to 8 p.m. They will also be able to see and give his two favorite reindeer a carrot. The reindeer will be located at 11th and Main Streets. The reindeer are sponsored by Aberle Ford, Bern-Sabetha Veterinary Clinic, Wenger Manufacturing, and Morrill & Janes Bank. The Apostolic Christian Home is sponsoring the trolley rides. Mrs. Claus will be giving away mini cupcakes by Aberle Ford. Miranda Young will be taking photos with Santa. The United Bank and Trust will be offering free hot dogs and the First United Methodist Church’s soup supper will be from 5 to 7 p.m. The downtown businesses will be staying open late, offering one-day-only specials and treats. There will be a business/craft expo in the City Hall Gym. Odyssey and Infinity will be caroling at 6:15 p.m. The American Legion will be serving cotton candy, popcorn balls and hot chocolate.

Trick or Treat on Main Street: The Sabetha Chamber and Sabetha Police Department gave out 560 bags.

New Business

Owl Ornament: The Sabetha Chamber is very excited to announce that we are going to be offering “Bring Back the Owl” Holiday Ornaments for the “Bring Back the Owl” campaign. We also are part of the Give to Grow Day on Nov. 23, sponsored by the Greater Sabetha Community Foundation.

Light Up Sabetha: The City of Sabetha and Chamber is sponsoring a Light Up Sabetha House Decorating Contest. Please call or email your name or to nominate a house by Dec. 14. Judging will be done that evening. Please have your lights on by 5:30 p.m. First Place wins $200, Second Place wins $150, Third Place wins $100, and Fourth Place wins $75.

The next meeting will be noon Monday, Dec. 10. We meet in the small commission room at City Hall. Everyone is invited. We encourage new, fresh ideas!
