Lady Jays split with Riverside

The Lady Jays softball team continued their season at home on Monday, April 8, with a doubleheader against the Riverside Cyclones.

“The Lady Jays extended their record to four wins and two losses,” said Head Coach Lauren Massey. “The Jays split with the Riverside Cyclones. Game one was a loss with a score of 8-5 and the team came back in game two with win and a score of 8-3.”

Game one

Sabetha started off strong in the first inning with three runs scored on two wild pitches and one error. The Cyclones tallied their first run in the third inning. Riverside held Sabetha scoreless in innings two through six, while they added an additional five runs in the fourth inning.

Sabetha tried to make a late run in the seventh inning, but it wasn’t enough, and the Cyclones would take the first game 8-5.

Senior Trista Argabright hit a triple during the game, while junior Rachel Kramer tallied a triple and a double. Maggi Hughes also collected a double.

Senior Hillary Krebs took the mound for Sabetha throughout the game. She allowed eight runs on six hits, while striking out five batters and walking five.

Game two

In the second game, Sabetha and Riverside each scored a run in the first inning and were scoreless in the second and third. Sabetha tallied two runs in the fourth and fifth innings to latch onto the lead for the rest of the game. The Bluejays would win the second game 8-3.

Hughes tallied another double in the second game.

Kramer toed the rubber for the second game. She allowed three runs on five hits, while striking out three batters and walking one.

The Lady Jays took on Nemaha Central on Monday, April 15. These results were not available at The Herald’s press time.
